About Us

Welcome to the Native Women’s Leadership Program. This program is administered by the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center (CIMCC).

BACKGROUND

The California Indian Museum and Cultural Center culturally enriches and benefits the people of California and the general public. CIMCC has a history of providing workforce and professional development training to Native women and girls, including training in Native arts specialty retail, traditional food businesses, and tribal museum professional development training. Since 2010, CIMCC has administered a Native youth empowerment program, Tribal Youth Ambassadors (TYA), designed to grow Native youth leaders and primarily serves girls and young women.

PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM

The project was led by a 5-member advisory committee of Native young women, women, elder women leaders by guiding the portal’s design, look, feel, navigation, feedback methods, and security/password protection functions.

The Native Women’s Leadership Program aims to advance the education and careers of Native young women, women, and elder women leaders by providing them with connections to board and committee opportunities, training, job opportunities, mentorship, and professional networking.

The Native Women’s Leadership Program is a web-based portal in which they can upload information concerning their interests, skills, experience, and means of contact. CIMCC believes in empowering Native young women, women, and elder women leaders’ voices and perspectives in critical forums and networks to combat current under-representation and lack of
visibility.

Financial support was provided by the Women’s Recovery Response Grant from the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.
